After a 3-year absence, the longest-running Toyota vehicle, the Land Cruiser has made its return to the North American Market with its 8th generation! With three grades to choose from, we can go into the history of the series and what’s to come with the newest additions.

The Toyota BJ was originally built for Military purposes in 1950 before it was renamed the Land Cruiser in 1954 for its easy cruising over any rough land. It was a 3.4-liter inline six-cylinder engine vehicle made with 75 horsepower with low-speed torque. A wonderful accomplishment was made by Toyota Test Driver Ichiro Taira as he drove up the trail of Japan’s 12,388-foot-high Mt. Fuji. He made it to the sixth out of ten checkpoints which is the furthest any vehicle to have gone up a mountain. Check out below a few more fun facts about Land Cruiser history:

-The 20 Series began US Sales in California in 1958.

-The 100,000th Land Cruiser was built in 1968, the 300,00th built in 1973, and by 1980 the one millionth Land Cruiser was built.

-The FJ40 is considered a Collectible Vehicle and starts at most auctions for $50,000 or more.

Getting back to the origin of the 1958 Land Cruiser, the First Edition grade will be limited to 5,000 units in its release for North America and will be equipped with round heritage LED headlamps, a roof rack, rock rails, and an exclusive interior design. Staying true to where it all began as a durable off-road vehicle. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will be built in Toyota Motor Corporation’s Tahara and Hino plants in Japan with arrivals starting in the US for Spring 2024.

You will have the choice of two grades after the limited run First Edition: Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser. Both are equipped with Standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, full-time 4-wheel drive with a center locking differential, and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer with high/low range. It will also be equipped with the i-FORCE MAX turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain that produces 326 horsepower, 465 lb.-ft of torque. The 48-hp electric motor integrates into an eight-speed transmission feeding off a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack. The 2024 Land Cruiser will be offered in seven different exterior colors: Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Underground, Black, Meteor Shower, Trail Dust with the Grayscape Roof, and Heritage Blue with the Grayscape Roof.

Getting into the Interior, you’ll find a spacious cabin with seating up to 5 passengers. The 1958 model grade features black fabric seats and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Toyota Audio Multimedia System that supports compatible Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The newest multimedia system includes enhanced connectivity, Over-the-Air (OTA), and driver-focused features. The Land Cruiser model grade provides headed/ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats with the color choice of black or Java. Standard 12.3-inch multimedia monitor with Toyota Auto Multimedia and an available JBL premium sound system. The limited run Land Cruiser grade will have exclusive leather-trimmed seats and the “First Edition” logo embossed on the door panels. All models will have enhanced functional features of a palm rest for using the center touch screen and side knee pads for rough trails and off-road trips and a Smart Key System with push-button start. An available premium package for either model provided moonroof, head-up display, 14-speaker JBL audio system, digital rearview mirror and more.
