Why Toyota Safety Sense™ Makes Sense
Keeping your family safe should be your #1 priority on the road, and Toyota has designed a bundle of active safety features to help protect you and your passengers from harm. Toyota Safety Sense comes standard on many new Toyotas at no additional cost. Keep reading to learn more about the great features included with Toyota Safety Sense.
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
Designed to help you avoid a collision or reduce the severity of an unavoidable one, the Pre-Collision System utilizes an in-vehicle camera paired with a radar or laser sensor. Your Toyota will give you audio and visual alerts to prompt you to take action. It may apply additional force using Brake Assist or automatically apply the brakes to minimize the potential collision by reducing your speed. The system can also detect pedestrians and bicyclists ahead of you during daylight conditions.
Lane Departure Alert
Staying in your lane has never been as easy as it is with Lane Departure Alert. This system can detect lane departure on roads with visible lane markings. You will see and hear an alert to carefully direct your vehicle back to the center of your lane. If your new Toyota includes Steering Assist, it can automatically make small corrective steering inputs to keep your automobile in its lane. Road Edge Detection is another feature that can be a part of Toyota Safety Sense to help you avoid drifting out of your lane into the side of the road.
Automatic High Beams
You need to be able to see clearly at night, but you don’t want your high beams to be distracting to other drivers. That’s where the Automatic High Beams feature comes into play. The system uses an in-vehicle camera to detect oncoming vehicles and those ahead of you. From there, it automatically toggles between your vehicle’s high and low beams.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Traditional cruise control lets you relax on the open road, but other vehicles aren’t as predictable with their speeds, so you might have to adjust your speed setting continually. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control adjusts your speed so that you can maintain a preset distance from the vehicles ahead of you. That means your car can slow down without deactivating cruise control. If you need to slow down even more, you’ll receive audio, and visual alerts and brakes will be applied. Once there aren’t any slow vehicles in front of you, your Toyota will return to your preset cruise control speed.

Toyota Safety Sense also comes with other vehicle safety features including Road Sign Assist, which detects signs including speed limit and stop signs, and Lane Tracing Assist which helps keep your vehicle centered and in its lane.
