Exterior and Interior:

In order to stand out in an already crowded market appealing to millennials, Toyota had to make a splash with its design language, which it has definitely lived up to. Being such a relatively new segment, many automakers like Nissan and Kia experimented with funky styles, whereas Honda and Mazda took safer approaches, merely downsizing their mid-size SUVs. The Toyota C-HR appears to occupy the sweet spot in the middle, featuring a handsome coupe like exterior, while still retaining similar front-end design language to the rest of Toyota’s model line. The result is a unique, yet familiar appearance. Those customers looking to further stand out on I-695 should consider the R-Code two-tone paint option, which coats the roof of the vehicle in a pearl white, layered over a red, blue or teal body.

Technology and Performance:

Performance-wise, the C-HR’s only engine option is a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine, good for 144 horsepower and 139 lb./ft. of torque, sent to the front wheels exclusively. Inside, the standard C-HR XLE is equipped with technology to match its futuristic appearance. Each model comes standard with a 7 inch touch screen infotainment screen that doubles as a rear-view camera monitor. There’s also dual climate zone control, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, and Toyota’s Entune entertainment application. Step up to the XLE Premium trim, and you’ll be rewarded with leather upholstery, heated seats, push-button ignition, and keyless entry.

Toyota designed the C-HR to be a standard-bearer for its safety technology, and it sure delivered. Pre-collision detection and adaptive cruise control are standard across the range. The top trim affords the driver rear cross-traffic alert and a blind spot monitoring system as well. The C-HR serves as a continuation in Toyota’s determination to set the industry standard in automotive safety.
